The first question we were asked this year as seniors was “What is justice?” Honestly, we weren’t sure how to answer that because like the world justice isn’t always black and white. To begin to weed out what each of our philosophies on this are we looked at Rawls justice as fairness, utilitarianism, and libertarianism. We also watched a film on the injustices in the US prison system. From this we each wrote a monologue on our own philosophies and presented them to the class. Next we learned about environmental injustices in our area with oil and gas on the reservations. From this we each wrote a monologue about an environmental injustice topic of our choice and presented them to teachers and students in our school. Finally we either individually or in groups found an instance of injustice in the world or our community and did a project to help an organization bring justice to that problem.
Below you will see both of my monologues and my justice action project. As well as a reflection and defence for my project.
